Mental Health Commitment
Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which individuals recognise their own potential, are able to cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively, and contribute positively to their community (World Health Organisation).
At Turning Factor Limited, we are committed to creating a culture of wellbeing where everyone feels supported and empowered to thrive. This includes providing access to mental health resources, promoting open conversations about mental health, and training staff to recognize and respond to those in need. We will provide access to mindfulness resources and signpost to wellbeing support, organise regular events to promote social connection and reduce isolation and offer flexible arrangements where possible to support work-life balance.
Our Commitment
We aim to:
- Promote positive mental health and wellbeing
- Raise awareness of common mental health challenges
- Help staff recognise early warning signs of mental ill health
- Provide guidance and support for staff assisting learners with mental health concerns
Identification
Staff and learners may notice changes that indicate someone is experiencing difficulties with their mental health or emotional wellbeing. All concerns should be taken seriously and reported appropriately.
Possible warning signs may include:
- Repeated or unexplained physical injuries
- Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
- Increased isolation or social withdrawal
- Noticeable changes in mood, behaviour, or activity levels
- Decline in academic performance
- Talking or joking about self-harm or suicide
- Drug or alcohol misuse
- Expressions of hopelessness, failure, or worthlessness
- Changes in clothing, such as covering arms in warm weather
- Secretive or withdrawn behaviour
- Recurrent physical pain or nausea with no clear cause
- Increased lateness or absenteeism
Support
When a potential mental health concern is identified, we will:
- Ensure conversations take place in a private and safe environment, allowing individuals the time and space to share their concerns.
- Listen openly and without judgement, working collaboratively to identify underlying issues and appropriate support options, which may include referral to counselling services, making academic accommodations, offering mentoring programs and referring to peer support groups.
- We will work with each individual to create a support plan that meets their unique needs and preferences and follow up with individuals to ensure that the support plan is effective and to provide ongoing assistance.
Leadership
We recognise that every individual and situation is unique, and not all circumstances can be covered within this statement. However, our commitment remains clear: Turning Factor Ltd is dedicated to creating an open, supportive, and inclusive environment where staff and learners feel understood, valued, and supported.
